Information and Support Services Details:

• Grants will be awarded up to $10,000 for hospitals and pediatric cancer related organizations
• Bear Necessities funds programs, projects or hospital needs related to the mission of Bear Necessities: to provide hope and support to those touched by pediatric cancer.

Submission Information:

• Fill out the following form as the official ISS Grant Cover Page (PDF)
• Include a detailed description of the project/program (who will benefit?)
• Outline spending of grant monies (include if program will continue if BN does not
  fund and who you are currently receiving funding from for the project).
• The items must be a current need
• Program/project must already be operating or have plan in place for its operation
• There should be no money used for any indirect costs, salaries, camps, patient bills
  or funeral expenses.
• Include 10 copies of the proposal with official cover page.

Pediatric Cancer Research Details:

• Grants awarded shall not exceed $40,000 for Junior Investigators to support research into the causes and cures of pediatric cancer.
• Investigators may re-apply for additional support the following year.* Possible second year support will be based on 1. Merit of proposal compared to the other submitted research proposals; and 2. Achievement of the first year grant goals.
• The principle investigator must have a PhD or M.D. degree and must hold an academic appointment no higher than assistant professor.

Submission Information:

• Fill out the following form as the official Research Grant Cover Page (PDF)
• A research summary not to exceed 8 pages including background and preliminary
  data experimental design, estimated budget and an abstract in LAY language*. None of the monies is to be used for indirect costs; salaries, or travel expenses. A portion of grant money (less than 50%) may be used towards salary of one (1) lab technician.
• Curriculum Vitae
• Two letters of recommendation. One should be from the Department Head
• Include in Budget information: incorporate where you are already receiving funding,
  and how much you have received to date.
• Include 10 copies of your proposal with official cover page.

*Note: If this is a reapplication of a grant that was previously funded, all that is necessary is one letter from the department head stating why the program is worthy of continued funding. A progress letter must also have been received during the year at some point, which was stated at the time the grant was awarded.
