INFORMATION AND SUPPORT SERVICE GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS

• Grants will be awarded up to $10,000 for hospitals and pediatric cancer related organizations
• Bear Necessities funds programs, projects or hospital needs related to the mission of Bear Necessities: to provide hope and support to those touched by pediatric cancer.
• Bear Necessities does not fund any indirect costs, salaries, camps, patient bills or funeral expenses.

Submission Information:

• Fill out the following form as the official ISS Grant Cover Page (PDF)
• Include a copy of the organization, hospital’s 501 (c) 3 letter
• Outline spending of grant monies (include one page detailed budget; outline other sources of funding and a plan if Bear Necessities does not fund).
• Include a detailed description of the project/program (who will benefit?)
• Why is your program a current need?
• Program/project must already be operating or have plan in place for its operation
• Please mail one copy of the proposal to the Bear Necessities office and email one copy of the proposal and cover sheet to grants@bearnecessities.org (post marked April 11, 2008)

Pediatric Cancer Research Details:

PEDIATRIC CANCER RESEARCH GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS

• Grants awarded shall not exceed $40,000 for Junior Investigators to support researchinto the causes and cures of pediatric cancer.
• Investigators may re-apply for additional support the following year (see note 1). Possible second year support will be based on 1. Merit of proposal compared to the other submitted research proposals; and 2. Achievement of the first year grant goals.
• The principal investigator must have a PhD or M.D. degree and must hold an academic appointment no higher than assistant professor.
• Bear Necessities does not fund indirect costs; salaries, or travel expenses. A portion of grant money (less than 50%) may be used towards salary of one (1) lab technician.

Submission Information:

• Fill out the following form as the official Research Grant Cover Page (PDF)
• A research summary not to exceed 8 pages including background and preliminary data experimental design, estimated budget and an abstract in LAY language. Curriculum Vitae
• Two letters of recommendation. One should be from the Department Head
• Include in Budget information: incorporate where you are already receiving funding, and how much you have received to date.
• Please mail one copy of the proposal to the Bear Necessities office and email one copy of the proposal and cover sheet to grants@bearnecessities.org (post marked April 11, 2008)
