6th Annual “Bear Discoveries” Research Symposium

RESCHEDULED for October, 2012


Accepting Nominations for $40,000 Post Doc Fellowship Grant


Currently accepting nominations for senior graduate students who have not yet been accepted for their post doc placement to present their research in the field of cancer biology uncovering molecular mechanisms of relevance to childhood cancers; providing a framework for evidence-based targeted treatment. Applications that focus on inheritable changes in cells leading to cancer or epigenetics are desirable.


Ten students will be selected to present at the symposium with one student awarded a $40,000 Post Doc Fellowship Grant.


To  submit a nomination, the following is required: 1) three letters of recommendation 2) personal statement 3) copy of the student’s curriculum vitae and 4) an abstract of one page or less summarizing the research project. 


Nominations will be accepted no later than TBD and are to be submitted by email to Susan Mura at smura@bearnecessities.org.  Selected students will be notified no later than TBD.


The selected students will be asked to arrive on TBD for a Cocktail Reception and participate in a full-day symposium on TBD.  Accommodations for Wednesday and Thursday night, $100 for traveling expense and a round-trip flight to/from Chicago will be provided.  Presenters will have the opportunity to extend their stay (extended accommodations at own expense) and arrange to visit Chicago-area research programs if interested.


Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation is committed to furthering research that may bring us one step closer to discovering a cure for this devastating disease.  In addition to funding the annual research symposium, Bear Necessities has funded over $2 million in pediatric cancer research grants over the past eighteen years.
