The goal of the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation's Small Miracle Program is to support pediatric cancer patients (ages 0-19) and their families as they face the many physical, psychological, and financial challenges that accompany the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer. The program is only for residents of Illinois OR patients who are being treated at an Illinois facility. (If you would like to refer a child who meets these guidelines please email nfarella@bearnecessities.org)
Currently, other regional areas are being explored to expand the program's outreach.

The program consists of two components:

  1. Doing something special for the child
  2. Providing support services for the family

Funding for large group activities, parties and support groups does not fall under the guidelines of the Small Miracle Program, but should be applied for under the foundation's Information and Support Service Grants.

Dear Bear Necessities,
I want to let you know that I had an amazing time at an incredibly exciting Blackhawks game last week. I never doubted that I would have a great time with the three friends who joined me on the trip into Chicago. However, when I looked down at the tickets for the first time and saw that they were in section 107, directly behind the goal, I knew that the experience would exceed my expectations. Thank you for all the work you put in to make that Sunday such a special day. It is people like you that make it easy for me to continue through the weeks with a smile on my face.

Next week when my final cycle of chemotherapy ends and I begin the road to recovery in anticipation of my senior year of high school and fall football, I will start to put behind me one of the more awful chapters in my life. However, looking back on it, I can smile when I think of how during the experience I was able to add three cool Blackhawks t-shirts and some awesome hats to my wardrobe, an autographed picture of Patrick Sharp to my bedroom wall, and the memory of 22,224 fans screaming their heads off as the final buzzer sounded and the Blackhawks advanced to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in 17 years. It was insane. And I loved every minute of it.

Thank you once again for all that you have done.

Sincerely,

Eric

A special thank you to Ashley Hinton from the Chicago Blackhawks and Cindy & Jason Anderson for making Eric's Small Miracle possible!
