DISTRICT 300 WAVE |

|
District 300 schools have teamed up to raise funds for "Run for the Bear" on October 5th. Hampshire High School in Hampshire, IL held a student-faculty Dodgeball Tournament and raised over $2,800! By exceeding the fundraising goal, students got to throw pies at teachers and Principal, Mr. Bumbales and one teacher even shaved his head!
Bear Necessities is thrilled to see so much excitement at D300 for the "Run for the Bear"! For more information on the D300 Challenge, please contact Diane at diane.heimsoth@d300.org.

Bear Necessities is proud to once again be the beneficiary of the 2008 Sports Fan Choice Awards, which will be held in November. Chicago's version of the "ESPY" awards - and you can be part of it!
The Sports Fan Choice Awards, in its 21st year, honors Chicago's greatest professional athletes. Over 300 athletes, alumni and other celebrities will be present at this year's event -recognizing Chicago's MVP, Chicago's Rising Star, and other great accomplishments by Chicago's athletes. 100% of the proceeds of the evening's silent auction will be donated to Bear Necessities!!
Tickets are not available to the public, but Bear Necessities has been offered a select number of tables to sell to sports fans who do not want miss this exciting evening. The Sports Fan Choice Awards will donate $750 to Bear Necessities for each ticket purchased through our organization. Tickets are $1,000 each or $10,000 for a table. Click here for event overview!

In May, Laidlaw Elementary School in Western Springs, IL held their 8th Annual Kripsy Kreme Sale to benefit Bear Necessities' Small Miracle Program. Generously, two parents Ellen Oeltgen and Lisa Ott purchased and donated the donuts and coffee, and the fourth and fifth graders donated juice boxes for the event. The Student Council sponsored a bake sale and lollipop sale in April to benefit the Small Miracle program as well bringing Laidlaw's total donation to $1,200.00!
Thank you to everyone at Laidlaw Elementary for your participation and generousity to assist Bear Necessities and children battling cancer.

It's that time of year again to dust off your clubs and mark your calendars - The Loop 97.9 & Jonathon Brandmeier present The 15th Annual "Golf for the Bear" on Thursday, August 14th. As one of our largest fundraisers, we anticipate a record number of golfers will join us this year to raise money for pediatric cancer!
We are seeking various event sponsors, in-kind donations for our golfer bags (150 pieces) and items for golfer prizes. See list below for just a few ideas:

PRINTERS
NEEDED!!!! Our printing expenses
have gone sky high and we really need your help.
If you are a printer small or large we have jobs
of all sizes and we need your help to reduce our
costs. We will be pleased to offer advertising
in a variety of ways to let people know you support
our organization or anything else you might be
interested in to promote your business for helping
us. Please call the office to inquire about the
many opportunities we have. Remember the more
we save the more we have available to make Small
Miracles happen for our kids. Please help us save

STAMP DRIVES: Postage is one of our largest expenses. Last year
we were fortunate to have a school group hold a
postage drive for us. If you are interested in doing
a fun group project for BN why not give a 37-cent
postage drive a try in your school, club, church
or neighborhood. These simple things help us defray
our expenses and give more back to our kids! |

RETURN DRIVE: One of our finance committee members, Todd Brandstadt
and his wife Bonnie have moved their family to Michigan.
In their continued desire to support Bear Necessities
they are working on several different ideas they
have developed but wanted to share this one in specific.
Having lived in Illinois where we recycle our glass
and aluminum we are used to this process, when they
moved to Michigan it is a "returnable"
state. This means that they receive $ for all their
recyclable items. Since the Brandstadts had been
in the habit of recycling and not receiving any
$ return they have set up a bank at home where they
deposit all the $ they receive from their recycling
and will at the end of the year make a sizeable
contribution to Bear Necessities. They wanted all
our supporters to know about this idea, as they
too may be able to do this type of "Return
Drive" where they live to benefit Bear Necessities

CORPORATE INVOLVEMENT: Many of you work for companies that have volunteer
grants, matching gift programs, annual giving campaigns
and foundations that will provide grants to charities
like Bear Necessities. Please contact Kathleen if
your company has any of these programs and find
out how easy it is because of your involvement to
make a difference in the life of a child with cancer. |

RECYCLE FOR BEAR NECESSITIES:
In an effort to raise desperately needed funds,
BN is always looking for unique ways to raise these
funds. This fundraiser doesn't cost you a thing
and you not only help BN but the environment as
well. When you replace the toner cartridge in your
printer or toss that old cell phone think of BN.
These cartridges and cell phones are worth money,
about $3 - $6 for a laser cartridge and $1 - $3
for an inkjet cartridge and phones vary starting
at @ $2.50. Start collecting these cartridges and
phones from your employer, neighbor, church's, scout
groups etc. Just please consider donating them to
BN for cash! |

INKIND GIFTS
TO BENEFIT BEAR NECESSITIES: Bear Necessities
can now accept almost any sort of non-cash gift.
Through its association with Inkindex and a national
bartering clearinghouse. BN can convert your in-kind
gift into products and services the organization
needs. Recently, we accepted nearly $7,000 of corrugated
boxes, which were turned into toys. Excess inventory,
industrial equipment, vehicles, timeshares - it
doesn't matter. Such gifts can do wonders for BN!

VEHICLE DONATIONS: We have received
several calls about kind individuals who are interested
in donating cars. It is a difficult and detailed
process in which to do, so we have not gotten involved.
However, if you now go to our web site, you will
find a link that will take you to Independent Charities
of America (ICA) donation page that will allow you
to make an online vehicle donation to Bear Necessities
and all will be taken care of. This system can accept
donations of vehicles located anywhere in the nation,
cars, trucks, boats and even airplanes. Please consider
this in your planned giving. Thank you. |
